Veterinary Medical Vaccinations/Medications

Below is a list of some of the veterinary vaccinations/medications. All of these medications improve the health and well-being of your horse. Many of the medications are preventative, thus optimizing your equine athlete’s performance.

*Estrone Sulfate Injection: Intra-venous medication boosting energy levels $25.00

*Winstrol V-injection: Intra-venous steroid enhancing muscle definition. A beneficial injection which does not harm the horse, contrary to human steroid injections. This particular steroid provides excellent muscular strengthening. $60.00

*Polyglycan Injection: Injection to counteract arthritis $110.00

*Disp. Gastrogard: Many racehorses contract ulcers. Gastrogard alleviates ulcer development. $42.50

*Lipotrope Injection: Stimulates the appetite. If our horse is not eating accordingly, this will catalyze their appetite. $12.50

*Adequan: Intra-muscular injection strengthening joints and minimizing muscle and joint inflammation. $200.00

*Chiropractor: Alleviates muscle soreness and limbers the body. $200.00

*West Nile Vaccination: Mandatory vaccination to prevent West Nile Virus. $25.00

*Gelding surgery: If we have a colt that does not look like he will become a stallion, but has a very promising racing career, the trainer will recommend that we geld him. Gelding focuses their attention on racing and actually makes them a more productive racehorse. $200.00

*Bone Chip Surgery: If our runner develops bone chips, the chips must be surgically removed. After surgery the lay up time is approximately 120 days. If this happens, the monthly bills dramatically reduce in price, literally in half, because it’s considerably less in day care when a horse is off of the track at a lay up center. $1,500.00

*Acupuncture: Alleviates muscle and body soreness. $300.00

*X-Rays: If a problem develops this is one of the first steps to locate the ailment. $150.00

*Endoscopy UL Respiratory: Tests if there is any breathing problem or blood. Often, the endoscopy is administered after a poor performance in a race, especially if the horse coughs up blood, mucous, and dirt. $75.00

*Lasix Injection/ Banamine: Both are preventative medications. Lasix counteracts internal bleeding and Banamine acts like acetaminophen. $43.00

Many of these treatments do not apply unless an injury arises. Moreover, this is a very close approximation of the costs. Most of these medications are strictly preventative, which assures the safety and health of the horse.

Several of these vaccinations/medications do not appear on each months’ billing statement. Some are only administered twice a year or weeks apart, depending upon the medical history of the previous vaccination. All of the medications are excellent, providing our racehorses the best opportunity to compete at the highest levels.

The Southern California race track veterinarians are some of the best in the Thoroughbred industry. Therefore, without a doubt, our racehorses are treated with first class veterinary care.
