Recent tax laws have made it advantageous and attractive for owning a Thoroughbred racehorse.

Since a racing partnership is a business, you will be in a position to take advantage of a number of tax write-offs. We understand that each individual Member's tax reporting is different based upon their personal income.

According to the Internal Revenue Service,  investors are classified as either "active" or "passive" participants within the partnership. An active participant is eligible to claim any losses against their ordinary income. Passive participants must wait until the partnership is ended before claiming any losses.

All training, veterinary/dental, blacksmith, and transportation bills are eligible for write-offs. Also, when you travel to see your racehorse you will want to save any hotel, rental car, airline, gasoline, and meal receipts.

It is not only recommended, but a very good idea to keep accurate records of every horse-related expenditure. We do recommend that investing Members consult with their professional accountants regarding the specifics of their tax reporting and planning. 

As mentioned earlier, the units offered at Trojan Racing Stable provide the opportunity for great entertainment, excitement, with the potential to earn a percentage of the purse. 

*Every Member receives a thorough and detailed accounting statement regarding their percentage of the investment units. We mail copies of all of the expenses regarding training, veterinary, blacksmith, transportation/vanning, insurance which itemize each individual Member's accounting in relation to their sharing ratio. A full report will be e-mailed (via regular mail if requested) within 8 weeks after the close of the quarter.
